About Us

Northside Broadcasting Co-operative (2NSB) is a community radio station based in Chatswood, Sydney. It operates on the FM99.3 frequency and is refered to as the North Shore's FM99.3 on-air and for business purposes. In May 2008 FM99.3 celebrated its 25th anniversary, and from January 2009, began restructuring its programs and music content to community based magazine shows, specialist music programs and a more mainstream playlist.

History

The station began broadcasting in May 1983 from a pepper-corn rent house in East Chatswood, transmitting to the 'North Shore' - an area that covers the Willoughby, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Mosman and Ku-ring-gai Council areas. The station was originally broadcasting on FM91.5, playing from a jazz-oriented playlist. Following a move to the FM99.3 frequency in 2003, the station was rebranded Rhythm & Jazz, encompassing a range of genres from traditional jazz to smooth jazz, funk, soul, blues and world music.

Organisation

 The station is funded by listener donations and sponsorship from local businesses across Sydney's North Shore and greater Sydney area. It runs as a cooperative, managed by a board of nine Directors. Each board Director serves up to three years in office, with three Directors elected at each Annual General Meeting (November). There are as many as 120 volunteers who donate their own personal time to keep the radio station running through activities such as on-air presenting, technical support, program production, book keeping, general administration and even cleaning. There is a permanent operations manager and several commission-based sales staff.

New Board

After going into voluntary administration in late October last year, the Radio Rescue group regained operational control of the station and live broadcast recomenced on the 8th January 2010 under the guidance of the interim board. On the 25th March 2010 the 2009 AGM was held and a new board was formed. At their first meeting on the 11th March 2010 the Board invited the Mayor of Willoughby, Pat Reilly to fill the casual vacancy on the board and Pat accepted the invitation. The Board then elected Pat Reilly as Chairman and John Southgate as Board Secretary. The board also determined the terms of Directors by ballot and the terms are;

1 year Term - Deborah Evans, Geoff Stanwell, Rhody Thomas
2 year term - Richard Bell, John Southgate
3 year term - Yvette Kaleel, David Klarnett, Pat Reilly
